Maya AI Processing Policy
Last Updated: March 1, 2026
This AI Processing Policy explains how Maya uses artificial intelligence in its services, what data AI processes, what limitations apply, and your rights regarding AI-generated content. This policy is incorporated by reference into the Maya Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
1. How Maya Uses AI
Maya is an AI-powered personal shopping concierge. Artificial intelligence is central to how Maya works. When you interact with Maya, AI is used to:
Understand your messages: Maya uses large language models (LLMs) to interpret the meaning and context of your text messages, web chat messages, and other inputs.
Generate recommendations: Maya's AI analyzes your device information, plan preferences, shopping patterns, and available market data to generate personalized recommendations.
Compare deals: AI is used to identify relevant deals across Maya's verticals (devices, cell plans, groceries, pet food) and surface the ones most likely to benefit you.
Improve the service: Maya uses interaction data to improve the accuracy, relevance, and quality of its AI models over time.
Detect misuse: AI-based systems help detect fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access to Maya's services.
2. AI Providers
Maya's AI capabilities are powered by third-party AI providers, including:
- Anthropic — Large language model processing (Claude models)
- OpenAI — Audio transcription (Whisper) for voice interactions
These providers process your messages and interaction data on Maya's behalf under data processing agreements. They do not use your data to train their public models without your consent.
Maya may add, change, or replace AI providers over time. The Privacy Policy reflects current data sharing practices.
3. What AI Processes
The following types of data may be processed by AI systems when you use Maya:
- The content of your text messages and conversations with Maya
- Device information you share (make, model, carrier, condition)
- Shopping preferences and budgets you describe
- Your location (country, region) for local deal availability
- Your interaction history to provide context for ongoing recommendations
4. What AI Does Not Do
Maya's AI does not:
- Make purchases, sign contracts, or take financial actions on your behalf without your explicit instruction
- Access your bank accounts, payment cards, or financial institution data
- Share your personal conversation data with third-party advertisers
- Make binding legal or financial decisions that affect you without your review and approval
5. Limitations of AI
AI-generated recommendations and responses are subject to inherent limitations:
Errors and hallucinations: AI models can generate incorrect, outdated, or fabricated information. Maya takes steps to ground recommendations in real market data, but errors may occur.
Data freshness: Deal comparisons and recommendations are based on data available at the time of generation. Prices and availability can change quickly — always verify with the vendor before acting.
Context limitations: AI may not fully understand nuanced personal circumstances. Maya's recommendations are suggestions — your own judgment always takes precedence.
No professional advice: Nothing Maya's AI generates constitutes legal, financial, medical, or other professional advice.
6. Your Rights Regarding AI
Opt out of AI processing: Because AI processing is fundamental to Maya's service, it is not possible to use Maya's concierge features without AI processing. If you do not consent to AI processing, you should not use Maya's service.
Request human review: If you believe an AI-generated recommendation is incorrect or harmful, you can request review by a human by contacting [email protected]. We will review the recommendation and respond within a reasonable time.
Dispute an assessment: If Maya's AI generates a device assessment or evaluation you believe is inaccurate, contact [email protected] with details and we will review it.
GDPR / UK GDPR automated decision rights: EEA and UK users have rights under GDPR Article 22 regarding solely automated decisions with significant effects. See the EU Additional Terms or UK Additional Terms.
7. Data Retention for AI Training
Maya may use anonymized and aggregated interaction data to improve its AI models. Where this is done:
- Data is anonymized before use — individual users are not identifiable
- Raw conversation content is not shared with AI providers for model training without your explicit consent
- You can request that your data not be used for model improvement by emailing [email protected] with "AI Training Opt-Out" in the subject line
8. AI Transparency
You are always interacting with AI: When you text Maya, you are interacting with an AI system. Maya does not represent its AI as a human.
Human oversight: Maya's AI systems are monitored by humans for quality, safety, and compliance. Unusual or high-risk situations may be flagged for human review.
No manipulation: Maya's AI is designed to help you find better deals — not to manipulate you into purchases you don't want. Recommendations are based on objective deal quality and your stated preferences.
9. Updates to This Policy
