Maya Privacy Policy
Last Updated: June 21, 2026
Maya Verdant, LLC ("Maya," "we," "us") operates a household buying assistant delivered primarily by SMS and other channels you choose. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and your rights.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your mobile contact information with third parties for their own advertising or marketing.
Privacy requests: [email protected]
1. Who This Policy Applies To
This policy applies if you:
- Text or otherwise message Maya
- Use maya.markets or any Maya website or subdomain
- Create or use a Maya account
- Contact us by email, web chat, voice, or any other channel we offer
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Phone number — primary identifier for SMS and account linking
- Name — when you register or tell us
- Email — optional, for account recovery and non-SMS contact
- Mailing address — when needed for shipments or orders you request
- Device and plan information — make, model, condition, carrier, and similar details you share
- Shopping preferences — budgets, brands, dietary needs, pet details, and other preferences you describe
- Photos, receipts, and price reports you submit ("Submissions") — when you contribute to Maya's community pricing, we collect the image or file you send (e.g., a photo of a price sign, pump, shelf tag, product, or barcode, or a receipt), the prices, products, stores, and locations we read from it, and any image metadata it contains (such as the capture time, and EXIF location data if your device included it). Do not include other people, faces, or other people's personal information in Submissions. See Terms of Service Sections 13.2–13.5 for how Submissions are licensed and used
- Financial preferences — e.g., monthly budget for plans or devices. We do not collect full payment card or bank account numbers; payments use payment processors you interact with directly or through secure links
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Usage data — pages viewed, features used, chat widget interactions
- Device and network data — device type, browser, operating system, IP address
- Cookies and similar technologies — see our Cookie Policy
- Messaging metadata — timestamps, delivery status, and interaction patterns (not used to read non-Maya apps)
- Submission fingerprints — when you submit a photo or receipt, we generate content and perceptual fingerprints (hashes) of the image and record technical details (such as capture time and submission counts) to detect duplicate or fraudulent submissions, prevent abuse of the points program, and maintain the integrity of the community price index. We do not use facial recognition or biometric identification on Submissions
2.3 Information From Other Sources
- Market and catalog data — publicly available or licensed pricing, plan, and product information we use to answer your requests (not your private messages)
- Transaction confirmations — when you complete a purchase or referral we facilitated, we may receive confirmation status from the provider you used
- Referrals to Maya — if another service refers you with your consent, we may receive basic contact information
- Aggregated analytics — de-identified website usage statistics
We do not buy lists of personal information from data brokers for marketing.
3. How We Use Your Information
3.1 To Provide the Service
- Identify you across conversations
- Understand your devices, plans, and shopping goals
- Generate comparisons, alerts, and recommendations you ask for
- Facilitate transactions you request
- Operate accounts, authentication, and customer support
- Build and maintain Maya's community price index — we extract prices, products, stores, and locations from the photos and receipts you submit and combine them with other data to create aggregated, derived pricing data ("Community Data"). Community Data and the price index are Maya's property (Terms §13.3) and may be used and licensed for Maya's services and products. We administer the membership points program (including verifying, holding, crediting, and detecting abuse of contributions) using your Submissions and Submission fingerprints
3.2 Automation and Artificial Intelligence
Maya uses automated systems, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, to:
- Interpret your messages (text, and where you use voice features, audio converted to text)
- Generate responses and recommendations
- Produce synthetic speech for voice replies when you use voice-enabled channels
- Help detect fraud, abuse, and security issues
Service providers. We use independent technology providers to perform these functions on our behalf. They process your content only to deliver the service to you, under contractual confidentiality and security requirements. Those providers are not permitted to use your conversation content to train their general-purpose AI models unless you give us separate, explicit consent for that specific use.
Our own improvement. We may use de-identified or aggregated interaction data to improve reliability and quality. We do not use identifiable conversation content to train models unless this policy is updated to say otherwise and, where required by law, you are given a choice.
Opt-out of improvement use: email [email protected] with subject line "Data Improvement Opt-Out".
Details: AI Processing Policy.
3.3 Communications
- SMS alerts, recommendations, and service messages (with your consent where required)
- Replies to your questions
- Transactional notices
- Occasional service announcements
3.4 Safety, Security, and Legal
- Protect Maya, members, and others
- Enforce our Terms and Acceptable Use Policy
- Comply with law and respond to lawful process
- Automatically screen the images you submit. Every photo or receipt you submit is automatically analyzed by content-safety tools, including third-party providers acting on our behalf, to classify content categories (such as unlawful, sexual, violent, or self-harm imagery) before it is processed. This screening classifies content only; it is not facial recognition or biometric identification
- Detect, prevent, and respond to unlawful content. If a Submission appears to contain unlawful content — including any apparent child sexual abuse material — we may remove, preserve, and report it (and related account information) to law enforcement and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) as required or permitted by law
4. How We Share Your Information
We share personal information only as described here.
4.1 When You Ask Us to Act With a Provider
If you direct Maya to help you complete an action with a carrier, retailer, financier, or other service provider (for example, switching a plan or completing a purchase), we share only the information reasonably necessary for that action—typically contact details and relevant transaction or account fields. We do not share your full message history with providers for their marketing.
Providers handle your data under their own privacy policies once you engage them.
4.2 Financing and Payment
If you choose financing or payment options, payment and financing partners receive the information needed to process your application or payment. We do not store your full card credentials.
4.3 Service Providers (Processors)
We use companies that process data on our instructions to run Maya, including categories such as:
- Cloud hosting and infrastructure
- Messaging and telecommunications (SMS, MMS, voice, and related delivery)
- Automation, inference, and speech technologies (including AI and audio processing)
- Customer relationship and record systems
- Analytics, security, and support tools
- Payment processing
These providers may process data in the United States and other countries. They must protect your information and use it only for Maya's purposes. We may update providers within these categories without listing every company on this page.
Subprocessor details: Individuals in the EEA, UK, or other jurisdictions with transparency rights may request our current subprocessor list by emailing [email protected]. We will provide an updated list and, where required by law, notice of material changes to subprocessors.
4.4 Legal and Safety
We may disclose information when required by law, valid legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
4.5 Business Transfers
If Maya is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may transfer as part of that deal. We will notify you of material privacy changes.
4.6 With Your Consent
We share information in other situations when you clearly direct or consent.
5. International Data Transfers
Maya is based in the United States. Your information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. Those countries may have different data protection laws than yours.
Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers (such as standard contractual clauses approved under applicable law). Contact [email protected] for more information about safeguards for your region.
6. SMS, Mobile Messaging, and TCPA
Your phone number and message content are essential to Maya's SMS service.
- We send SMS only with appropriate opt-in consent
- Reply STOP to end marketing and assistant SMS (see Messaging Terms)
- We honor opt-outs promptly and maintain suppression records
- We do not sell or rent your phone number
- We do not share or sell your mobile information with third parties for their promotional or marketing purposes
Carrier message and data rates may apply. Maya does not control carrier charges.
7. Data Retention
We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes above:
| Data type | Retention |
|---|---|
| Account data | While your account is active, then deleted or anonymized after a confirmed deletion request (subject to legal exceptions) |
| Message history | Up to 24 months for context and service quality, unless you request earlier deletion |
| Transaction records | Up to 7 years where required for tax, accounting, or legal compliance |
| Submission images and receipts | Retained to operate the service, detect duplicates and abuse, and support the points program; original files may be removed on request, but Community Data, fingerprints, and other data we derived from a Submission are retained — including in de-identified or aggregated form — indefinitely, and survive account closure |
| Aggregated analytics | May be retained in de-identified form indefinitely |
Deletion requests: [email protected]. Some data may be retained where law or legitimate interests (e.g., fraud prevention) require. Because Maya owns the Community Data and price index derived from Submissions (Terms §13.3), deleting your account or a Submission does not require us to delete or unwind already-derived Community Data.
8. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information
- Delete your account and personal information (subject to legal exceptions)
- Restrict or object to certain processing
- Portability of information you provided, where applicable
- Withdraw consent where processing is consent-based (without affecting prior lawful processing)
- Opt out of sale of personal information — we do not sell personal information
- Non-discrimination for exercising privacy rights
California (CCPA/CPRA): Email [email protected] with subject "California Privacy Request".
Nevada: We do not sell covered information; contact [email protected] to confirm.
EEA / UK / other regions: Email [email protected] with subject "Privacy Rights Request". See Jurisdiction-Specific Terms.
Business customers: If your company engages Maya to process personal data about your customers, see our Data Processing Agreement (not this consumer Privacy Policy).
9. Children's Privacy
Maya is for adults 18+. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. Contact [email protected] if you believe we have done so.
10. Security
We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and security reviews. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Report suspected account compromise to [email protected] promptly.
11. Third-Party Sites and Services
Links and referrals may take you to third-party websites or services. Their privacy practices are their own—review their policies before giving them information.
12. Automated Recommendations
Maya uses automation to suggest deals and next steps. Recommendations are not human-reviewed before every message. They can be wrong or incomplete—you decide whether to act. Contact [email protected] to question a recommendation.
This is not legal, medical, or financial advice.
EEA/UK users: see EU or UK terms for automated decision-making rights.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy. Material changes will be communicated by SMS, email, or prominent website notice before they take effect where required by law. The "Last Updated" date shows the current version. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated policy where permitted by law.
